Why 2025–2026 quotes are higher: the refrigerant change

Under EPA’s Technology Transitions rule, new residential AC and heat-pump systems moved from R-410A to lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B and R-32 (US EPA). Carrier said its R-454B base prices would be about 10% above R-410A, rising to 15–20% over two years (ACHR News). EPA has said previously manufactured R-410A equipment may still be installed, so ask which refrigerant your quote includes.
